Special Care Nursery

For those babies who arrive earlier than planned and need special care, Northwest Women's Center offers a 17-bed, Level IIE special care nursery (SCN) to provide those little ones (28 weeks and above) with the specialized care they require. The SCN is quiet place with round-the-clock care by specially trained pediatric nurses. Our special care nursery has special beds and unique lighting that changes by time of day to mimic natural light rhythms. This may help babies adjust to the regular day/night routine. Parents may visit their babies in the SCN regularly. Rocking chairs are positioned next to every bed so parents may spend time with their baby.

Breastfeeding Support

Northwest Women's Center has a team of lactation consultants that are trained to help enhance your breastfeeding experience. You will have access to our certified consultants to discuss your concerns, observe you and your baby during feeding, and offer guidance on how to get the most out of breastfeeding.

After you go home, our support continues with a weekly breastfeeding support group, led by nurses and lactation consultants. In addition to our trained staff, you'll also engage with other moms, who can help share their experiences.

Childbirth Education

Whether you're a first time parent or just need a refresher, The Women's Center offers parent and family education classes to help you prepare for pregnancy, birth and beyond. We want to help you gain the confidence and knowledge you need to have a positive and memorable experience before and after the birth of your baby.

Midwife Services

A certified nurse midwife (CNM) is a specific kind of advanced practice nurse that specializes in women's healthcare services. CNMs are licensed, independent health care providers with prescriptive authority in all 50 states. CNMs focus on participating as partners in a woman's care and generally take a low-intervention, holistic approach to healthcare. Midwifery as practiced by CNMs encompasses a range of primary health care services for women from adolescence beyond menopause. These services include primary care, gynecologic and family planning services, preconception care, and care during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period. At this time, midwifery is available at Northwest Women's Center only.
