Having a baby can be one of the most exciting and rewarding times in a woman's life, and East Georgia Regional Medical Center is dedicated to providing expectant mothers and newborns with quality care during this special time.

When you choose to have your baby at East Georgia Regional Medical Center, you're choosing the comforts of home in a hospital setting. You're choosing knowledgeable, board-certified obstetricians, neonatologists and neonatal nurse practitioners, as well as certified nurses and lactation consultants - all dedicated to helping create a memorable birthing experience. We are here to teach, provide support and care for you and your newborn.
At East Georgia Regional Medical Center, board-certified obstetricians are on call around the clock daily to care for moms experiencing unexpected symptoms and concerns.
Expectant mothers who may be experiencing complications see an obstetric specialist who can evaluate issues and provide care until the patient can follow up with her own doctor. These dedicated physicians can support the care of high-risk pregnancy patients and are available to deliver babies for patients who don't have an obstetrician.
East Georgia Regional Medical Center's Level II neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) provides round-the-clock care for infants who are born prematurely (32-35 weeks gestation) or who have medical issues that require special care or close monitoring. As one of the few Level II NICUs in the area, we have a neonatologist always on-site to provide medical attention for infants who need a higher level of care. The caregivers in our NICU work closely with parents and encourage as much contact with your infant as possible.
Our Level II NICU, also known as a special care nursery, has the capability to provide neonatal resuscitation, stabilize newborn infants who are ill and care for those born less than 32 weeks gestation until they can be transferred to a higher level NICU.
At East Georgia Regional Medical Center, we aim to provide our patients with quality, compassionate care in comfortable surroundings. We want our patients to experience exceptional care during one of the most exciting times of life. This is why we are extremely proud that East Georgia Regional Medical Center and the Women's Pavilion team includes many DAISY Nurse award nominees, has been recognized as the Patient Experience Department of the quarter and has several accolades in the community being the "Best in the Boro" and Statesboro's "Most Fabulist" for nursing and women's healthcare professionals and "Best Place to Work."
The team offers a variety of classes to prepare mothers and families before and after the birth of a child.
We believe knowledge about childbirth helps you understand the physical and emotional changes that occur during pregnancy, birth and parenthood. Experienced prenatal nurse educators conduct free classes to help prepare you and your partner for your special day.
Taught by an international board-certified lactation consultant, this class provides evidenced-based, up-to-date breastfeeding information designed to help moms and babies get off to the best start possible.
Topics include:
There will also be plenty of time for questions. Individual consultation and education is provided during your hospital stay. We invite you to call the lactation consultants at (912) 486-1424 before or after your baby is born if you have any questions.
You may wish to bring a pillow to the classes for comfort.
"The Miracle of Birth" class provides an understanding of labor and delivery, coping skills and the postpartum period. We recommend attending this session in the sixth to seventh month of pregnancy. Women's Pavilion tours for expectant parents and their families are held at the end of each childbirth education class.
This class provides information on the characteristics of normal newborns, infant care and safety issues. This class should be taken in the last trimester of pregnancy.
The prenatal classes are free and available only to expectant mothers who plan to deliver at East Georgia Regional Medical Center. Registration for all classes and tours is required. Class sizes are limited.
